High School Students

Hey Forensicator,

Want to compete at the 4th Annual Spartanvitational?

We are excited to open our doors to all competitors, regardless if you have a program at your school or not. This includes middle schoolers, and yes, even elementary schoolers who are itching to compete. We call this the Individual Affiliate Program, which you can read more about below.

As for high schoolers who are part of forensics programs, we encourage you to convince your coach to register. We pride ourselves on being one of the largest tournaments in the state of Michigan, and we exist in a competitive sweet-spot for both the East and West side of the state. If your team is not competing at our tournament but you would like to attend, we are more than happy to accomodate you–as long as it is okay with your coach.

If you have any questions about the competition, would like to attend even though your school is not, or would like to learn more about what it is like to be a Spartan Speech member, please do not hesitate to email our Vice President, Laya at silve157@msu.edu.

Individual Affiliate Program

What is it

The Michigan Interscholastic Forensics Association opens their doors to students who do not have a program at their school.
We similarly do the same for students, except we do not require students to pay any fees. Students are welcome to compete at our tournament for free. There will also be an award division specifically for Individual Affiliate competitors so that they have a fair shot at winning an award at a state-level tournament, even if this is their first time forensicating. This program was created to encourage the spread of speech activities through the state of Michigan.

Who can compete

Any elementary, middle, or high school aged student who does not have a forensics program at their school.
This includes students who have a program in MIFA theatre or debate, but not MIFA Individual Events. Unfortunately, we do not accept any tournament competitors who are in college or post-highschool. This initiative and tournament is open to students from other states, but please be aware that the competition operates strictly under MIFA rules and guidlines. We ask that students who typically compete through another school use this opportunity to compete for themselves and for their own school.

Who can be a "coach"

Quite simply, anybody can be a coach.
We encourage students who currently are in a MIFA-sponsored program to coach their cousin, brother, sister, nephew or friend from a different school. Join us on our mission to spread the joy of speech activities throughout the state of Michigan. Getting your friend or sibling involved can be monumental in starting new programs and we hope to inspire this initiative around the state.

How to register

When you are certain that you or your trainee is going to attend and compete, please register below no later than Wednesday February 17th, 2021.
